Touring in Eire 1996

Day 12: Ardnagreevagh - Achill Sound

Somewhere nice Westport archipelago The longest day today - must have been 90 miles. Cycled well into the night, not wanting to stop. Superb views around Leenaun (65k) and later at dusk around Westport. The photo (31k) shows Cathair na Mairt in the distance - a place of pilgrimage that I passsed earlier in the day.

Day 13: Achill Sound - Easky

Nice camp site The day started badly with miles and miles of dull scenery, but it ended very well as I found a very fine spot to camp. If you look hard at the centre of the horizon, you can just make out what looks like a hill. (It's a lot easier to see in full-sized picture (41K).) This "hill" is in fact my goal - the Slieve League - sea cliffs 2000' high. The lumpy brown thing (half in shadow) in the left foreground is me - or rather my legs - the photo was taken lying down in bed.
